King of Blues Music: Duke Robillard

He may not be a household name in my country Phillipines but in the 'Blues music world', American singer songwriter/producer DUKE ROBILLARD is a total talented artist and has been thrilling the music scene for over three decades.

He is generally regarded as a master guitar player- having won numerous awards including Best Blues Guitarist (2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 The Blues Music Awards) and a two times Grammy nominee (2007, 2010) for Best Contemporary Blues (for Guitar Groove-A-rama album) and Best Traditional Blues (for Stomp! The Blues tonight album) respectively.

Robillard stays on the road, playing as many as 250 dates a year. And still proving, night after night, that his true talent is bringing people out to hear the music, appreciate the show and most especially keeping the blues music alive.

Below is a cut from his latest work Tale from the Tiki Louge, a cover song originally performed by Les Paul and Mary Ford.

BYE BYE BLUES (featuring Sunny Crownover)

Try also to watch this modern interpretation of the classic song SWAY.

Special thanks to Danny for sharing the song, photos and the artist infos. You can also visit Duke Robillard official website here.

Crystal Bowersox: My American Idol 2010

American Idol Season 9 finalist CRYSTAL BOWERSOX rocked the house once again with her amazing performance of Janis Joplin's Me and Bobby Mcgee.
She has already won in so many ways!...But i think it would be better if she DIDN'T win, so she can get on with her career, (i.e. DAUGHTRY!). It's just pathetic to sit and listen to her being critiqued by Karen Dioguardi, who is obviously jealous of this gal's talent (I mean, look at the silly song she came up with for last year's winner!!)

Anyway....enough said - I will ALWAYS follow Crystal's career into the future!!!

WATERS OF MARCH by Anya Marina

"Waters of March" (or "Aguas de Marco" in the original Portuguese) has been around in its various forms since the 1970's. In fact, in 2001 it was named as the all-time best Brazilian song. I'm not familiar enough with Brazilian music to hop onto that bandwagon, but it is a delightful tune either way.

Anya Marina covered the song beautifully on her 2009 sophomore album Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II...I tried to listen to the original (by Antonio Carlos Jobim) but decided to stick with this one.

I'LL FLY AWAY!

by Jars of Clay featuring Sarah Kelly

I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away
When I die, hallelujah by and by, I'll fly away

Some bright morning when this life is over, I'll fly away
To a home on God's celestial shore, I'll fly away

When the shadows of this life have grown, I'll fly away
Like a bird from these prison walls, I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away
When I die, hallelujah by and by, I'll fly away

Oh how glad and happy when we meet, I'll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on my feet, I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away
When I die, hallelujah by and by, I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then, I'll fly away
To a land where joy will never end, I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory, I'll fly away
When I die, hallellujah by and by, I'll fly away

This song is written by notable gospel music composer Albert E. Brumley in 1929. The first recording of the song by Jars of Clay appears on the various artist compilation album Wow, Worship, Red which was released in 2004. The song was re-recorded a year later for inclusion on the band's studio album Redemption Songs and released as the second radio single in promotion of the album.

Another great version of this song comes from The Avett Brothers and u can check it here.

THE SCIENTISTS in cover

The Scientist is one of the most popular song by the alternative rock band that goes by the name of COLDPLAY. It's lyrics are very touching to hear and tells a story about a man's desire to love and make an apology.
The music below are some of the best (and worst?) cover rendition of this beautiful song:

AIMEE MANN

NATASHA BEDINGFIELD

AVRIL LAVIGNE

JOHNETTE NAPOLITANO

and the live performance that gave me the idea to make a posts about this beautiful track: Katelyn Epperly of American Idol Season 9

EASY SILENCE

After front-lining the Grammy nominated band SEMISONIC, Dan Wilson released his first solo album titled Free Life (2007). The album includes a song he co-wrote with the Dixie Chicks called Easy Silence and Wilson's version is equally inspired and enjoyable.
